This project arose from a decision to bring our home to our ideal rather than moving. From the initial contract meeting, Ian and his team were easy to work with, ultra-reliable (one of my concerns when entering the process) and enormously helpful: we had never undertaken any home improvements on this scale. Ian patiently guided us through the building process, explaining what needed to be done and when. He always ensured that our inconvenience was minimised.
Site clearance and footings were completed in a timely fashion and disruption to our lives was minimal. This is a tidy team (another of my concerns at the outset). As indicated above, there was a delay of three weeks, due to a sewerage issue, which was no fault of ours or IMS Building.
When I noticed that the dimensions of the Garden (well...snooker) room were not quite adequate, Ian was able to make the necessary adjustments with the architect and planners. From that point, the project progressed extremely smoothly. Despite torrential rain during one week, the walls went up and the roof on and as soon as we were watertight, the plastering, first and second fixes were done in no time.
IMS and his contractors worked well with our kitchen designer and have delivered an outstanding finish to our home. All our friends, neighbours and relative have commented on the quality of build. I.B
Where to begin? We have two dogs. As the back garden was to become unusable during the build, Ian's first action was to fence off part of our (open) front garden so the dogs could be allowed out safely and securely. As we both work long hours, the team became the de facto dogsitters throughout the project...Lucy and Molly will miss them now the work is done!
Ian made himself available by text, phone and e-mail: always responding rapidly to queries and suggestions whatever the time of day. At no point were we made to feel foolish: however daft the question. I have learned an enormous amount from Ian: not just about building, but about customer service. As must often happen in all projects, things kept cropping up...replastering the lounge (one wall needed making good as part of the project), getting rid of the 1980s coving, repainting the hall, landing and stairs, adding a socket here and a light there. Nothing was too much trouble.
Ian has been at pains to ensure that team members attended when we expected them. All members of his team and subcontractors clearly understood his rigorous demands about keeping the project tidy and being considerate to us and our neighbours throughout the project. When the road was blocked for a day, Ian personally advised all our neighbours to minimise incovenience. I would have no hesitation in recommending Ian and his team to anyone needing a builder!
